Seen from above, a little apricot puppy — Gracie in her earliest days — stands on a sunlit concrete patio, her leash clipped on and her fluffy face tilted upward with wide, curious eyes. The dappled shadows of trees play across the ground around her, and she looks both tiny and wonderfully brave. Every great adventure starts somewhere, and this was the very beginning of hers.
