Gracie stands on the kitchen tile by the sliding glass door, wearing a little burgundy flower in her collar and looking up with those soft, expressive eyes. She has the most patient, earnest look on her face — the universal "please let me in" expression. Her sweet presence at the door was one of life's simplest and most wonderful things.
